Marsh & McLennan names Glaser CEO, replacing Duperreault

NEW YORK (Bloomberg) — Marsh & McLennan Cos., the second- largest insurance broker, promoted Daniel Glaser to chief executive officer, effective January 1, as the company expands in Latin America and Asia.Glaser, 52, replaces Bermuda’s Brian Duperreault, 65, who is retiring, the New York-based company said yesterday in a statement.Marsh & McLennan gained 8.7 percent this year in New York trading after climbing in both 2011 and 2010, the first advances for the company since 2003.Duperreault, previously the CEO of insurer Ace Ltd., became the broker’s leader in 2008 to restore profit lost after a 2004 bid-rigging scandal. Glaser, the chief operating officer since April of 2011, joined the broker from American International Group Inc. in 2007.“Brian has built a strong executive team, significantly improved the company’s operating results, and established a long-term strategy that continues to serve as the foundation for the company’s future success,” Chairman Ian Lang said in the statement.Glaser will join the board when he becomes CEO and Duperreault will step down as a director, the company said.
