Hamilton recruits former Argo executive Bufkin
A former executive at Bermuda-based Argo International Holdings has been signed up to help Hamilton Insurance Group break into the US market.
Barbara Bufkin is to become executive vice-president in charge of business development for Hamilton USA, reporting to CEO Conan Ward.
She said: “The opportunity to work with an organisation dedicated to shifting the insurance paradigms represents a rare opportunity.
“Conan’s operations will be anchored in a depth of data intelligence and a breadth and a breadth of intellectual capital that is unique in our industry.
“I’m excited about the possibilities presented by Hamilton USA and look forward to contributing to its growth and development.”
Ms Bufkin joined Hamilton USA from Guy Carpenter and Company, where she was chief operating officer.
Before that, she worked for Argo and has also served as a director of Swiss Re New Markets and a chairman, president and CEO of Swiss Re-owned Facility Insurance Holding Corporation.
Mr Ward said: “Her comprehensive knowledge of the insurance sector and products, vast network of contacts and global perspective will be invaluable as we build our business.”
Hamilton was launched in Bermuda last year by industry veteran Brian Duperreault, who is group CEO and has around $800 million in capital.
Hamilton USA has yet gain permission to operate in the US — but the firm intends to buy or create one or more US insurance companies to “establish a US platform that will be technology-driven and committed to better service and faster transaction times for the benefits of customers and producers.”
