Smith and Rozario promoted at Ironshore
Ironshore has confirmed the appointment of two executives to lead its Bermuda property team.
Bermudian Ian Smith will head the team, as previously reported in The Royal Gazette, while Shane Rozario, is the property team’s new chief operating officer.
Both Mr Smith and Mr Rozario will broaden their underwriting responsibilities to lead the Bermuda team “to bolster the diverse property portfolio established with the initial launch of Ironshore in 2007”, the company said.
“Ian and Shane are seasoned employees of Ironshore with a proven track record of success and contributions, bringing a wealth of experience to their respective new roles within Bermuda Property,” stated Mitchell Blaser, chief executive officer of Ironshore Bermuda.
“We are delighted to promote these talented executives and are excited to have a reinvigorated new leadership within the team. We see a number of new growth opportunities for the property team here in Bermuda.”
Mr Smith joined Ironshore in 2013 as vice-president, property underwriter and brings more than 15 years of industry experience with both an underwriting and broking background.
Prior to joining Ironshore, Mr Smith spent five years with Arch Insurance (Bermuda) where he underwrote their technical risk book which includes both energy and international property accounts.
Before Arch, Mr Smith was at XL Insurance (Bermuda) Ltd in the energy department where he underwrote US energy. Mr Smith began his insurance career as a property broker at Aon (Bermuda).
Mr Rozario’s professional career spans more than 25 years in global property, with in-depth underwriting expertise in the London, US and Bermuda insurance markets. He joined Ironshore at its inception in 2007 as head of property claims and currently serves as a director of Ironshore Insurance Ltd.
Previously, Mr Rozario was vice-president of property and energy claims with XL in Bermuda. His industry tenure also includes underwriting roles with Vericlaim and DP Mann Syndicate 435 (now Faraday).
Ironshore has kept its own brand after the company was acquired by US insurance giant Liberty Mutual. The company has overhauled its island-based property team in the wake of the departure of four employees, who joined rival Argo Group last month.
Ironshore’s Bermuda Property unit provides all-risks property coverage, including windstorm, earthquake and flood risk.
