Insurance leaders lined up for Abir forum
A who’s who of Bermuda’s global insurance market will discuss the state of the industry and major trends affecting risk management at a leadership forum marking the 25th anniversary of the Association of Bermuda Insurers & Reinsurers.
The event on July 10 at Rosewood Bermuda will see high-profile executives past and present participate in an afternoon of panel debates focused around big themes impacting the industry.

Kevin O’Donnell, president and CEO of RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd, and current chairman of Abir said: “We expect an impressive turnout of global insurance industry leaders and stakeholders joining us in Bermuda, the world’s capital for innovative risk.

David Burt, the Premier, and former Premier Sir John Swan will be present at the event.
The form’s first panel discussion is titled, “Bermuda’s Risk Management Leadership — what the Future Holds.” Moderated by Mark Geoghegan, managing director of Insurance Insider, it features as panellists: Pina Albo, CEO, of Hamilton Insurance Group; Albert Benchimol, president and CEO of Axis Capital; Jeremy Cox, CEO of the Bermuda Monetary Authority; Marc Grandisson, president and CEO of Arch Capital; and Mr O’Donnell.
The second panel focuses on “Lessons Learned from the Past,” and will be moderated by independent director Caroline Foulger, former chair of the Bermuda Business Development Agency. The panellists are Michael Butt, former CEO of UK and Bermuda insurers, and chairman of Axis Capital; Stephen Catlin, founder of Catlin, and chairman of the Insurance Development Forum; Dinos Iordanou, former CEO of US and Bermuda insurers, and chairman of Arch Capital; Don Kramer, serial reinsurer founder and current chair of ILS Capital Management; Fiona Luck, career insurance executive and director of the Lloyds Franchise Board; and Brian O’Hara, a career reinsurance underwriter, and the founding CEO of XL Group.
The day’s final panel, “Catastrophe Risk Management Leadership,” features as moderator Steve Weinstein, senior vice-president and group general counsel of RenaissanceRe Holdings. Panellists are: Bryon Ehrhardt, global head of growth and strategic development at Aon; Kathleen Faries, head of Bermuda, Tokio Millennium Re; Mark Guishard, director of corporate and community relations for the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences; Lara Mowery, managing director and global manger, Property Special Risk, Guy Carpenter; and David Santiago, vice-chairman of Florida House of Representatives, insurance and banking sub-committee.
Keynote speakers between the panels have yet to be announced.
The afternoon forum runs from 2:30pm to 7:30pm. Space is limited.
