Burrows awarded Hamilton Scholarship
Ciara Burrows, a Bermudian student at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, has been awarded The Hamilton Scholarship by the Hamilton Insurance Group.
She is studying for a bachelor’s degree in joint legal studies and economics, and will receive $25,000 in support of her final year of study. She is the second student to be awarded the scholarship since its inception in 2015.
Pina Albo, chief executive officer of the Hamilton Insurance Group, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to hear that the members of our Community Giving Committee, who oversee the applications and selection process for The Hamilton Scholarship, have chosen Ciara as the award’s recipient.
“She’s a remarkable young woman who, in spite of a number of adversities, has excelled personally and academically. We’re going to be watching her progress with great interest and have no doubt she will continue to achieve excellence in all she does.”
Ms Burrows said: “I had the honour of meeting Ms Albo after I heard I’d been awarded The Hamilton Scholarship and was so impressed with her interest in what I’m doing. Her career path is the one I want to pursue. She started as a lawyer and then moved into the insurance industry. That’s my goal, too, and I’m so thankful to Hamilton for helping me to pursue my dream.”
Ms Burrows is a former Head Girl at Saltus Grammar School and, and in her graduating class at Saltus was Valedictorian with Distinction. In her most recent semester at the University of Waterloo, she was named to the Dean’s List with a perfect GPA of 4.0. She is also an international student volunteer and a member of several university clubs.
