Bermuda to host Rims event in July
Bermuda has been selected as the venue for an invite-only event this summer hosted by the prestigious Risk and Insurance Management Society and the Bermuda Business Development Agency.
Rims Risk Management Academy Bermuda, slated for July 14 to 17, will see more than two-dozen senior executives come to the island for a three-day thought-leadership programme combining sessions hosted at offices of major Bermuda-based carriers and brokers with social and networking opportunities.
The event is part of a Rims series that aims to deepen understanding of key specialist global insurance markets; to date, three have been held at Lloyd’s of London.
“Rims Risk Management Academy Bermuda provides risk professionals with the opportunity to share experiences, strategies and success stories, empowering them to build stronger and more resilient programmes,” said Mary Roth, chief executive officer of Rims.
“Bermuda and its risk community continue to be invaluable advocates for the profession, and we are proud to bring this event to the country.”
Some 25 to 30 C-suite guests invited to the Bermuda event will represent Fortune 500 companies comprising a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, utilities, transportation, logistics, pharmaceutical, healthcare, energy, business services, telecommunications, and technology.
Participating sponsors to date include: AIG, Allied World, Aon, Axa XL, Chubb, the Hamilton Princess and Beach Club, Liberty Specialty Markets, Marsh, and Willis Towers Watson.
“We are thrilled to be able to bring this high-profile event to Bermuda to showcase our world-class marketplace, global reach and pool of expertise,” said Andy Burrows, the BDA CEO. “We know it will help deepen understanding of Bermuda’s unique advantages and help establish new, mutually beneficial relationships.”
Programme topics at Bermuda’s event will include: cyber-risk, insurance-linked securities, healthcare and transactional liability, insurtech, captive insurance, flood and wildfire risk, and employee benefits.
The event steering committee members include Joshua Alvera, public policy and regulatory affairs representative, Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers; Kathleen Bibbings, vice-president, AIG; Michael Murdoch-Smith, vice-president, professional lines, Allied World Assurance Company; Giles Harlow, senior vice-president, Aon; Shelle Hendrickson, senior vice-president, head of healthcare Bermuda, Axa XL; Jereme Ramsay, business development manager, BDA; Adam Farrell, assistant vice-president, Chubb; Susan Pateras, chief operating officer, Liberty Specialty Markets; Amanda Szakmary, senior vice-president, Marsh; and Tommy Edwards, specialty lines broker, Willis Towers Watson.
“We’d like to thank all our steering committee members for their time and commitment to this project, which we hope will become a fixture of the Rims calendar,” said Ramsay.
“The committee features members of our seven BDA risk-industry working groups, all of whom have helped shape the thought-leadership sessions. The BDA’s risk pillar counts 114 professionals from 55 firms in the Bermuda market, and their involvement underscores the collaboration our market is so well known for.”
Ms Roth made the announcement at this week’s Rims conference in Boston.
