Bermuda Healthcare Forum hosts webinar

Amy Wolfinger of Aon Bermuda

Bermuda’s healthcare insurance market will hold a free-to-join industry webinar this week to discuss reinsurance, claim trends and the underwriting cycle in the medical professional liability market.

The virtual panel discussion on Wednesday at 12pm Bermuda time will give the more than 200 expected participants an insight into the cyclical nature of the market and the impact of changes in the US healthcare system.

Originally scheduled as part of the agenda for this year’s Bermuda Healthcare Forum, a biennial event for healthcare insurance specialists which has been postponed until April 7 and 8, 2021, the panel will feature expert representatives from TransRe, Guy Carpenter and Tiger Risk based in Bermuda and the US.

“In the absence of being able to host a physical forum on island this year, we are pleased to provide a virtual platform for carriers and brokers to share knowledge and engage with clients,” said Amy Wolfinger, a member of the forum’s organising committee and senior vice-president of Aon Bermuda, a platinum sponsor.

“Bermuda continues to be a leading provider of healthcare coverage because of its capacity and proven ability to deliver innovative solutions to increasingly complex risks.

“The professional liability market was already facing various headwinds earlier this year and the uncertainty regarding Covid-19 has exacerbated the challenging marketplace. Given the timeliness of this session, the committee wanted to bring it to our audience of colleagues, brokers, and clients this year.”

Lindsay Roos, healthcare practice leader at Bowring Marsh Bermuda and member of the forum organising committee, said: “Our speakers are industry leaders in the healthcare reinsurance space and will bring great historical and present-day intelligence to brokers and clients.

“All clients are experiencing some degree of change related to their medical malpractice renewals. This panel will discuss recent capacity, pricing and coverage changes being seen at the reinsurance level, as well as drivers for these changes and the impact they may have on upcoming MPL renewals. These are unprecedented times for our healthcare clients as they face this crisis from the frontline, and we are pleased to be able to deliver relevant information to them.”

The webinar is supported by sponsors of the Bermuda Healthcare Forum including numerous Bermuda-based brokers and commercial insurance companies, as well as the Bermuda Business Development Agency.
