An insurance industry conference in Bermuda that was to have happened in September has been cancelled, with the organisers now focused on bringing it back next year.

The 2020 Bermuda International Life & Annuity Conference was scheduled for September 17 at the Fairmont Southampton, but the board of the Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers decided to cancel this year’s event, which would have been the seventh time the annual event had been staged.

In a statement, it said “the world begins the healing process from the devastation caused by Covid-19, the conference will be put on hold until September 2021. The conference planning committee has already begun the process of ensuring that the 2021 conference will be an event not to be missed. Biltir would like to thank all sponsors and attendees who have supported the conference since its inception. Biltir would also like to thank the Fairmont Southampton for its continued hospitality and professionalism over the years”.

Ronnie Klein, executive director of Biltir, said: “While this was a very difficult decision for the board, I believe that it was the correct one. Besides financial considerations, there is a lot of time and effort put into planning this event. The board just did not see the justification for continuing both financial and time commitments.”

To compensate for potential lost continuing education credits for its attendees, Biltir is looking into the possibility of providing one or more webinars.
