A summer internship programme will go ahead at Bermuda’s new re/insurer, Convex Re, even if Covid-19 pandemic restrictions mean the intern has to learn to be adaptive “in a work from home environment”.

The $1.7 billion start-up, cofounded by insurance industry veteran Stephen Catlin and Paul Brand, has decided to proceed with a four-week summer internship opportunity in Bermuda.

With workplace restrictions still in place as a result of the pandemic, the company is adapting how it works and recruits — including bringing an intern into the company for the summer.

It said it is used to working in a nimble way, and its IT system is cloud-based. Convex said: “Remote working, including recruitment and onboarding has not been affected. Our selected intern will gain practical work experience while learning how to be resilient and adaptive in a work from home environment”.

The internship is a special opportunity to be part of an exciting phase for the company as it establishes itself. The international specialty insurer and reinsurer has operations in London and Bermuda.

Convex is looking for an intern to join the team in Bermuda for four weeks. The internship is open to all school leavers and those currently studying for a university degree, and during the course of the programme, they will rotate across underwriting, operations, finance, HR, legal and risk and compliance gaining developing technical and personal skills.

Mr Catlin, Convex Group chief executive officer, said: “Convex has been fortunate enough to attract some of the most talented individuals in the marketplace and we have built a really strong team both in Bermuda and London. We enjoy finding and developing talent and this is an exciting opportunity for the right individual to join our Bermuda team this summer.”

While Mr Brand, Convex Re CEO, said “At Convex we are committed to our people, prioritising culture as we believe it is and will be one of our leading competitive advantages.

The company is looking for individuals who think differently, who are inspired by new opportunities and who are interested in helping it “create our clients favourite insurer”.

The internship will run from June 29 until July 24.

Students can apply online through the Convex website. After answering a few questions on the pop-up application, they will need to upload their resume and a link to a 30-second video telling the company what makes them different. However, time is running out with online applications remaining open for one more week.
