Bermuda presence expected at in-person major reinsurance event
One of the most important events on the global reinsurance industry calendar is to be held in-person this autumn.
The Baden-Baden Reinsurance Meeting will go ahead October 17-21 with reinsurers from around the world, including Bermuda, expected to travel to the spa town in southwestern Germany.
The Baden-Baden meet-up was cancelled last year due to concerns around the Covid-19 pandemic.
John Huff, chief executive officer of the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers, said: “As part of the rich tradition of the global reinsurance renewal calendar for decades, it’s good news to hear the progress with vaccinations and lower Covid-19 infection rates has allowed organisers to move forward with an in-person, October reinsurance event in Baden Baden, Germany.
He added: “It’s reassuring to know all appropriate precautionary and security measures will be taken to ensure the safety of all participants.
“The Bermuda market is traditionally well represented at Baden Baden and while attendance may be more measured this year coming out of the pandemic, I expect Bermuda’s leading international reinsurers to have a meaningful presence at the event leading into the continuing hardening market of January 1 renewals.”
Organisers have advised the reinsurance community that the meeting will go ahead. They wrote: “After one year of interruption due to the Covid-19-pandemic, we welcome you back to your industry meeting in Baden-Baden.
“This decision has been made by the advisory council for the organisation of the Baden-Baden Reinsurance Meeting and is supported by other industry representatives.
“The actual and further ongoing progress of vaccination and other measures of sanitary protection have led to continuously decreasing incidence rates. The current likelihood of a further decrease and a sustainable low level of these rates lays the foundations to conduct an industry meeting in physical presence in October.”
Organisers added: “To ensure a high level of safety, all appropriate organisational and security measures are taken. For this reason, the number of registrations will be carefully monitored and limited, if necessary.
“The registration for delegates will start in July 2021. It will be a pleasure for us to inform you about further details at that time.”
