Focus on insurtech with Mosaic London hire
Specialty underwriter Liam Jones has joined Bermuda-based Mosaic Insurance to focus on the start-up’s global product innovation and insurtech strategy.
Based in London, Mr Jones is SVP, head of business development, reporting to Mosaic co-founder and co-CEO Mark Wheeler and serving as a member of the company’s leadership team.
Mosaic said that the role has a broad remit under which he will lead activity to enhance existing coverage and address emerging exposures through the evolution of new products across the firm’s specialty lines.
It added that Mr Jones will drive strong integration between underwriting and technology, working closely with all product units to enhance Mosaic’s pioneering insurtech platform.
Mr Wheeler said: “Liam has an outstanding reputation as a highly regarded specialty underwriter. He is an innovator and strategic thinker with a strong sense of purpose, well known for his commitment to harnessing technology and the development and creation of new specialty products.
“His skills are core to the Mosaic strategy, and, combined with our differentiated business model, will see him make an immediate impact.”
With 15 years’ experience in the global specialty underwriting sector, Mosaic said, Mr Jones has worked in the Lloyd’s, US and Bermuda markets.
Previously, he served as head of underwriting strategy for Liberty Specialty Markets, where, Mosaic said, he also ran the financial lines, healthcare and special risks divisions. He is a mentor in the Lloyd’s Lab incubator and holds advisory board positions at several insurtech companies.
Mr Jones said: “At a time when the opportunity to advance products, distribution and technical underwriting capabilities is so high, it is very exciting to join a company focused on harnessing what is possible.
“Our industry needs more solutions, improved efficiency and greater transparency for clients — and I truly believe Mosaic is on course to demonstrate how this can be done successfully.”
