Reinsurers to Rendez-Vous again in Monte Carlo
After a two-year absence, Bermuda’s reinsurance industry will join colleagues, associates, clients and competitors in Monte Carlo next September.
The Rendez-Vous de Septembre (RVS), a September tradition since 1957, is back after the pandemic hiatus.
It is the largest gathering of the insurance and reinsurance markets for bilateral discussions ahead of market renewals.
At the latest board meeting of RVS, the dates were set for next year: September 10-14.
In updating its website, the organisation said: “2020 and 2021 editions have been cancelled due to the public health crisis. Many participants said that they understood this decision, while expressing their strong attachment to the RVS, which they view as both useful and necessary.”
Claude Tendil, president of the RVS, said: “The guiding principle behind this decision was above all the safety of the women and men invited to attend the RVS.
“The professional encounters and the quality of the discussions that take place in Monte Carlo are irreplaceable. We have faith in 2022".
The event brings together in Monaco nearly 3,000 insurance, reinsurance, brokerage and risk-management professionals from 80 countries.
A large contingent from Bermuda will attend. RVS also attracts many lawyers, financial advisers and specialist journalists.
Bermuda reinsurers see Rendez-Vous as a series of business meetings in advance of transactions put in place for the contract-renewal season through January.
In the absence of face-to-face meetings, this year there were a number of virtual presentations, and business contacts continued the use of video-conferencing technology for meetings.
