Last week the roll call for the publication Captive International’s Cayman awards 2020 were handed out, and the surprised winner in the reinsurance broker category was Bermuda broker Michael Woodroffe, president of the reinsurance broker Kirkway International.

Captive International’s Cayman awards highlight the “efforts and achievements of the most exceptional service providers in the Cayman captive insurance industry”.

The publication said: “The results of the survey underline, as they did last year, the international and interconnected nature of the insurance industry. These are Cayman-focused awards, and many of the winners live and work in Cayman, but some do not.”

Whether they are based in Cayman or elsewhere, the publication added, all the winners know Cayman well, and are in turn well known by participants in Cayman’s captive insurance market.

“We feel that our survey and awards represent an honest and unbiased assessment of how different companies and individuals are perceived in terms of their different qualities.”

Mr Woodroffe and Kirkway are quite popular with the captive industry and Captive International awards.

It is the second year in a row he has won the Captive International Cayman Awards — Reinsurance Broker: Individual.

And his firm was highly commended at the same event for the second year in a row.

He and his firm have also won awards from Captive International’s US awards programme.

Mr Woodroffe responded on LinkedIn: “I am very honoured to be named the individual reinsurance broker winner this year.

“I am delighted that Kirkway received an honourable mention in the reinsurance broker section.

“Many thanks to our friends and captive clients that voted for us in a busy year for the captive industry.”
