Sun Life International has marked its silver jubilee, having been established in Bermuda in 1996 as a specialised business unit focused exclusively on providing high-quality offshore product solutions to high-net-worth clients around the world.

But the pandemic meant a postponement of plans starting last year to hold in-person celebrations for employees and international guests.

The company announced the jubilee in a separate communication to distributors around the world, created a video dedicated to the jubilee and published announcements on their linked-in account.

“Our story began with a group of experts, united with one goal – to meet the growing demand for cross-border product solutions from HNW clients around the world”, said Donna Cotter, the chief executive of Sun Life International.

“Today, we are a global business, a leader in this segment, and are exceptionally proud in servicing these clients. Our product portfolio includes Universal Life, Indexed Universal Life and Whole Life products – customised to our clients’ needs”.

The company has employees in Bermuda, Canada, Ireland and the United States.

Because of its Bermuda headquarters, Sun Life participates in the community with fundraisers and charity donations.

In the past two years, it has donated more than $150,000 to dozens of Bermudian charities and was a sponsor to Bermuda’s national team at the NatWest Island Games.

At one time, Sun Life maintained two units in Bermuda – one focused on locally written business for residents of Bermuda and the other focused on international business. The local business discontinued new sales in Bermuda approximately 15 years ago, although the company continues to service existing clients.

The active International unit, with its head office in Hamilton, serves clients in more than 80 countries.
