BF&M pledges $75,000 to Bermuda College Foundation

The Bermuda College will receive a $75,000 boost over three years thanks to a donation from an insurance company.

BF&M Limited will give annual donations of $25,000 to the Bermuda College Foundation, a group tasked with funding the college, after the foundation pledged to find new ways to bringing in cash.

Abigail Clifford, president and COO of the insurer, said: “BFM’s donation to support the Bermuda College Foundation’s capital campaign aligns with our aspiration to build stronger communities.

“As a company with a century-old legacy, our goal is to impact the communities we serve in a long-lasting way.

“Supporting education is one way we have chosen to execute our vision.”

Garry Madeiros, the deputy chairman of the Bermuda College Foundation, thanked BF&M for the donation and said that the cash would go towards the college’s vision of “a fully-funded, state-of-the-art Bermuda College”.

He added: “It is rewarding to have this legacy organisation underscore the importance Bermuda College has to our educational system, to our students both young and old, and to our society in general in Bermuda.

“Education is paramount for the success of this country and the foundation is looking forward to developing a long-term philanthropic partnership with BF&M as we ensure that the island’s only community college continues to provide equitable access to quality tertiary education.”

Mark Berry, the chairman of the Bermuda College Foundation, added: “The effort to create a centre of excellence at the Bermuda College has already begun, due to generous support from our community.

“The work must continue as the needs of the college are many, which are outlined on Bermuda College Foundation’s website.”

Duranda Greene, the president of Bermuda College, added her thanks and said that she looked forward to the benefits the new partnership would have for the college’s students and “the community in general”.

She said: “Collaboration with local companies, such as BF&M, speaks once more to the confidence that Bermuda’s business community places in Bermuda College to provide quality education, workforce development, and professional career opportunities to Bermudians and residents alike, at a global standard.”
