BMS appoints Ian Gormley UK CEO
BMS, a Bermuda-based independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker, has appointed Ian Gormley as the new United Kingdom chief executive officer.
Mr Gormley will report to Nick Cook, chief executive of BMS Group. He will be responsible for the continued growth and expansion of the company’s capabilities in London and Bermuda across all speciality lines, both insurance and reinsurance
A spokesman for the company said that since joining BMS as managing director of global risks in 2012, Mr Gormley had led BMS’s speciality business to become one of the highest regarded and most respected platforms in London, doubling the platform into a multifaceted global business with revenues of more than £100 million.
He has also built out BMS’s energy presence, developed a best-in-class property team, advanced the financial products division, and established a global risks team in Bermuda for property/liability and speciality reinsurance.
Before BMS, Mr Gormley worked for seven years at Glencairn and has a background in underwriting and broking.
Mr Gormley was thrilled to become the UK CEO.
“We plan to more than double the scale of our speciality business through selective growth with partners where we can bring in new capability or enrich current expertise,” he said.
“BMS is a destination for talent and has a very inclusive culture in which we give our colleagues or teams the support they need to succeed.”
He was looking forward to bringing his passion for BMS’s people-led culture and his sector expertise to deliver the strongest possible outcomes for clients around the world.
“What marks Ian out is his exceptional strategic vision and leadership of BMS within the UK,” Mr Cook said.
“He is BMS through to his very fingertips and is highly regarded, enormously smart and has shown inspirational leadership skills. Ian has made a real contribution to BMS’s cultural values ensuring that diversity and inclusion is integral to the company’s DNA.
“I’m delighted that he has taken on the role of UK CEO of BMS, which allows me more time to focus on global strategic growth across our whole business.”
