BFIS scholars intern in London

Four Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies scholars flew to London on the weekend for an intensive two-week internship.

They visit 18 (re)insurance companies and other related organisations during the fortnight, participate in presentations, meetings and work shadowing, and, will meet with many professionals in the industry.

Sachio Harrison is an actuarial science graduate, Jasai Burrows studied Business Management with a Finance concentration and Jude Mosely studied Business and Economics. Shane White, who is in a Co-op programme studying International Business, has interned for the past year and will return to university for his final year in the Fall.

They seek insight into how the insurance and reinsurance industries work from an international perspective and will observe the interrelation of different careers and disciplines in the industry, and also find out about different day-to-day responsibilities and career opportunities.

On their first day, the students visited Lloyd’s of London, with a tour followed by an introduction to Lloyd’s role in the insurance market place.

For the remainder, they will participate in numerous sessions at different companies, involving diverse agendas.

The students will meet with underwriters, brokers, actuaries, as well as lawyers, IT personnel and others, getting a very broad exposure to the industry.

Bermudians working in London hosted them for a July 4 reception, and other social meetings are planned by companies in the city.
