Three departures from top jobs at Canopius
Three top jobs are being vacated as part of a business reorganisation that began more than a year ago at the global specialty re/insurer Canopius Group.
It means the departure from the company of three heads of underwriting departments less than a year after they assumed the top posts.
Canopius has been undergoing a structured programme of transformation, determined to realise an ambitious strategy of growth over a three-year period as a multinational, multi-platform insurance company across three regional business units, the UK, US and Bermuda, and Asia-Pacific.
Notable departures include the CEO of Canopius Bermuda and global head of Reinsurance, Charles Craigs, who has been with the company for more than 14 years, and CEO of Bermuda since 2017.
He has also been CEO of Canopius Re Ltd, the Bermudian domiciled Class 4 re/insurer, and was promoted to group head less than a year ago, last May.
He is also CEO of Canopius Underwriting Bermuda Limited and Canopius ILS Ltd.
A company statement said: “Over the last 18 months, Canopius has reorganised our global underwriting operations to both enhance the focus on specialist underwriting capabilities and enable our three business regions to reach their greatest potential.
“As part of the ongoing strategic transformation, we have agreed that Charles Craigs, Bernie De Haldevang and Rachel Sabbarton will be stepping down from their roles as group head of Reinsurance, Specialty and Short Tail, respectively, and will be leaving the business.
“They have made a tremendous contribution to Canopius, for which they have our sincere gratitude and we wish them continued success in their future roles. Our commitment to each of our global products remains unwavering.
“In the interim, responsibilities will be assumed by our acting group chief underwriting officer Lisa Davis and regional chief underwriting officers Alois Rouffiac, Coleman Johnson and Yann Marmonier. We’re also excited to soon welcome Sam Harrison as our group CUO.
“We will continue to work hard to achieve the ambitious goals we have set ourselves for this year and beyond and we look forward to realising the increasing benefits afforded by our new operating model and strategic approach.”
Ms Sabbarton has been with Canopius since 2018 and was promoted to group head of Short Tail last May at the same time Mr de Haldevang was promoted to group head of Specialty.
