Everest Insurance, the insurance division of Bermudian-based Everest Re Group Ltd, has announced that Mark Maritzen has joined the company as global chief underwriting officer.

Mr Maritzen is based in New York, reporting to Mike Karmilowicz, president and CEO of Everest Insurance.

He will oversee all aspects of global underwriting for Everest Insurance, from defining risk appetite and underwriting guidelines to portfolio management, price setting and knowledge sharing, working with the company’s regional chief underwriting officers to drive underwriting excellence and global alignment.

Mr Maritzen was most recently at Berkshire Hathaway Re managing and underwriting all property programme business.

He replaces Mike Mulray who was recently appointed as president of North America Insurance.
