Bermudian interns join Allied World for eight weeks
Five Bermudian students have been selected from a competitive field of candidates to participate in Allied World Bermuda’s eight-week summer internship programme.
The global insurer and reinsurer said the interns are: Athena Marsh, Queen’s University; Lexus Brites, Bermuda College and the University of Tampa; Alex Pilgrim, University of Colorado; Naphisa Smith, Nova Southeastern University; and Grace Reeves, Queen’s University.
Allied World said its internship programme combines practical learning, project work, individual mentoring and training.
Students rotate through different insurance departments, including property, general casualty, professional lines and reinsurance.
The company said the programme focuses on providing the students with a solid foundation for a future career in underwriting.
It added: “The interns interact and train with leaders throughout Allied World and are also able to build broker relationships with direct experience underwriting accounts and during networking events.”
Colm Singleton, Allied World head of Bermuda office, and head of Bermuda and Global Markets Claims Group, said: “Allied World Bermuda is focused on hiring local Bermudian talent, and we look forward to mentoring these talented individuals as they enter the industry.”
Rhiannon Simons, Allied World Bermuda human resources chief, said: “We are excited to welcome our new interns for the second term of the Allied World summer internship programme.
“Last year was such a success for both students and our company that we were eager to implement and enhance our programme.
“This year included an underwriter/broker swap, giving interns a well-rounded understanding of what an underwriter faces on a day-to-day basis.
“We are so impressed with this group of students and excited to contribute to their overall learning experiences.”
