Collin Anderson joins Abir
A former senior public servant who has been a consultant and key project co-ordinator for the government’s implementation of Bermuda’s Corporate Income Tax will join the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers as its Director of Policy and Regulation, effective July 1.
Collin Anderson has 23 years of experience in the public and private sectors, including regulatory and supervisory work at the Bermuda Monetary Authority, leadership roles with the Government and insurance industry roles.
Abir said that in his new senior leadership position, Mr Anderson would spearhead its work representing the public policy interests of Bermuda international insurers and reinsurers that protect consumers around the world.
He will lead Abir’s public outreach agenda; research international public policy and insurance regulation developments; manage Abir’s Hamilton office; and serve as corporate secretary. He will report to Abir chief executive John Huff.
Most recently Mr Anderson served as a consultant to the Government of Bermuda on various projects over the past year, with a primary focus on co-ordinating the project team to implement Bermuda’s Corporate Income Tax for the Ministry of Finance.
His work on the execution of the new regime included policy, legislative, operations, communications, and financial matters.
During nearly five years with the BMA, Mr Anderson served as lead supervisor for several Bermuda insurance groups, handled companies under close monitoring, and engaged with international regulatory bodies.
Most recently at the BMA, he served as deputy director of strategy and international affairs.
His leadership experience during 12 years with the Government of Bermuda included tenures as a permanent secretary for the Ministry of Economy and Labour, and permanent secretary for the Ministry of National Security.
He was also the founding director of the Health Insurance Department in the Ministry of Health.
Before joining the Government, Mr Anderson worked in various roles in the insurance industry in New York, Bermuda, Washington DC and London, including positions with the Ace Group of Companies (now Chubb Ltd).
Anderson was an Ace/Robert Clements Scholarship recipient and earned a bachelor of business administration from St John’s University, School of Risk Management. He also holds an MBA from Pace University in New York.
Mr Huff said: “Collin’s broad experience, encompassing public policy, regulation, legislation, executive management, property and casualty insurance and international affairs, makes him a perfect fit for this role.
“I am confident he will be a great asset to Abir as we continue to represent the public policy interests of Bermuda’s international insurers and reinsurers. We’re pleased to welcome Collin on board.”
