Bermuda market mourns passing of industry icon
The reinsurance industry is mourning the passing of Dinos Iordanou, the former Arch Capital Ltd chairman and chief executive, and cofounder and non-executive chairman of Vantage Risk.
He is survived by Marianne Iordanou, three daughters and grandchildren.
John M. Huff, president and chief executive of the Association of Bermuda Insurers & Reinsurers said: “The entire international (insurance and) reinsurance industry mourns the passing of entrepreneur, Mr Dinos Iordanou, who was a booming voice for Bermuda.
“Dinos was a tremendous leader, mentor and industry icon, particularly in his founding role of Arch Capital Group as a Bermuda-based powerhouse since it’s post-9/11 start-up.
“The market greatly benefited from Dinos guidance as a longtime member of Abir including a term as Abir chair from 2011-2012.
“Abir expresses its sincere condolences to the Iordanou family and all those whose lives were touched by this industry giant.”
A statement from Vantage Risk said: “A friend, mentor, and colleague, Dinos was instrumental in Vantage’s founding and a champion for its success. He was a remarkable businessman, generous philanthropist, and devoted family man. He will be deeply missed.”
The Bank of Cyprus also expressed sadness at “the untimely death of our friend and partner, the senior independent director, Konstantinos ‘Dinos’ Iordanou”.
The statement added that he always honoured Cyprus with his work and stood out for his philanthropic contribution.
It said: “Mr Iordanou was appointed to the bank's board of directors on November 9, 2021 and since then, he has given his utmost to the administrative activities of the organisation.
Mr Iordanou has been chairman and CEO of Arch Capital Group Limited, since August 2003 and director since January 2002 (retired in September 2019).
“Before joining Arch as one of its founders in 2002, Mr Iordanou served in various capacities for Zurich Financial Services and its affiliates, including as senior executive vice-president of group operations and business development of Zurich Financial Services, president of Zurich-American Specialties Division, chief operating officer and CEO of Zurich American and CEO of Zurich North America.
“Before joining Zurich in March 1992, he was president of the commercial casualty division of the Berkshire Hathaway Group and senior vice-president of American Home Insurance Company, a member of American International Group.”
