Zorena Anderson awarded the 2024 Axa XL Scholarship
Zorna Anderson, the former co-captain of the Bermuda Under-17 women’s football team, has been awarded the 2024 Axa XL Scholarship, given to students pursuing an undergraduate degree in studies related to the insurance and reinsurance industries.
The 19-year-old is studying economics at the University of Liverpool in Britain and plans to graduate with a business economics degree in 2027.
Axa XL said the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Mapping Project volunteer had researched the extent to which sustainability topics were included in the University of Liverpool Management School.
Through the knowledge gained as a UN volunteer, she later achieved the Bloomberg Environmental Social Governance Certificate.
Ms Anderson is a student ambassador at university and a member of the Economics Society, Global Opportunities Society, African-Caribbean Society and the University of Liverpool Football Team.
She is a graduate of the Bermuda High School for Girls, where she achieved high grades in nine International General Certificates of Secondary Education, including mathematics, physics, biology, English literature, English language and economics.
She later earned her International Baccalaureate Diploma at Warwick Academy, including Principal Honours in Academics.
Ms Anderson also had a number of football accomplishments and volunteered at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship and with SailGP Endeavour Programme.
She has earned the Royal Life Saving National Beach Qualification, the Botanical Science Award and the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.
Axa XL Scholarship Committee chairwoman Carol Parker Trott said: “Each year we welcome the opportunity to meet the high calibre of candidates who apply for this scholarship and their diversity of talent never ceases to amaze us.
“On behalf of the committee, we congratulate Zorena on being selected as the 2024 Scholar. The committee was not only impressed with Zorena’s accomplishments but also with her maturity, self-motivation and resilience.
