Some 400 delegates are expected to attend the 20th anniversary event of the Bermuda Captive Conference next week at the Pier Six complex in Hamilton.

The 2024 conference, organised by the Bermuda Captive Network, is themed “Navigating Captive Horizons”.

It features an agenda filled with keynote presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions that explore the latest trends, challenges, and innovations in the captive insurance industry.

The agenda was developed in partnership with members of the Bermuda Captive Network, who formed this year’s agenda committee.

Sessions will be held throughout the day on Monday and Tuesday.

Topics include Bermuda setting the standard in jurisdictional excellence, captive investment management strategies, the benefits of risk-pooling and managing general agents, maximising a captive’s value and parametric innovations, navigating capacity and rates in the insurance and reinsurance markets, exploring the effect of corporate income tax in Bermuda, the growing role of Latin America in Bermuda’s captive market, and how global events shape captive strategies.

Thomas McMahon, executive vice-president of Davies Captive Management and chairman of the Bermuda Captive Conference, said: “As we celebrate the 20th Bermuda Captive Conference, we are proud to present a programme that reflects both our legacy of excellence and our forward-looking approach to the future of the captive sector.

“We have brought together an exceptional line-up of speakers, sessions, and networking opportunities that address the key challenges and opportunities in today’s market. We look forward to welcoming our delegates to Bermuda for a highly engaging and insightful event.”

The event will kick off with a welcome from Mr McMahon, who will be joined by Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, who will discuss Bermuda’s economic development and outlook.

On Monday, at the opening of the event, the Bermuda Captive Conference will announce this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to honour an outstanding leader whose career has greatly advanced the industry and its global reputation.

Alongside this, the Bermuda Captive Network will recognise the inductees for the 2024 Captive Hall of Fame, which recognises locally domiciled captives who have been active in Bermuda for 25 years.

This year’s inductees include: Bread Reinsurance Ltd, Sedgwick Bermuda AGI (SAC) Ltd, S&S Reinsurance Ltd, Bluewell Reinsurance Company (Bermuda) Ltd, Palo Verde Insurance Company Ltd, Norfolk Reinsurance Company Ltd, Flagstaff Insurance Company Ltd, EmPRO International Ltd, Evergreen Insurance Company Ltd, Wyndham Insurance Company (SAC), Artex Axcell PIC Ltd, Potomac National Security Reinsurance Ltd, Noah Insurance Company Ltd, Capstone Insurance Company Ltd, and Trinity River Insurance Co Ltd.

The full conference agenda can be found here.

The Bermuda Captive Conference was created in 2004 to help promote, support and grow the island’s world-leading captive insurance industry sector. The Bermuda Captive Network is a membership-focused organisation providing education, business development and effective representation for Bermuda’s captive and managed insurance industry.

Representing all aspects and demographics of the Bermuda captive industry, the organisation said, it reflects the innovation, energy and collaborative approach of this growing market, while continuing to promote Bermuda as a world-class domicile in the global risk market.
