Aon, the global broking group, has expanded its reinsurance platform in Bermuda with the appointment of five new team members.

Jemma Henry and Lawrence Cheng have been appointed as managing directors, while Libby Sargent, George Burles and Sonal Ohrie have joined as vice-presidents. All appointments are subject to Bermuda immigration approval.

The group said the significant expansion is designed to “augment transactional and capital optimisation solutions, and facilitate profitable growth opportunities for clients”.

It added that further talent is to be identified in the coming months to drive capabilities and expertise on the island.

The company said the expanded team will increase Aon’s on-island strength across Global Specialty lines of business and particularly in property specialty retrocession — it will further expedite the development of the firm’s local facultative and captive reinsurance platforms that align with respective teams in London and the United States.

The expanded team will report to James Ramamurthy, head of Global Re Specialty Bermuda at Aon, with Mr Ramamurthy reporting to Roman Romeo, chief executive of Reinsurance Solutions Bermuda for Aon.

Mr Romeo said: “Through this scaled and highly engaged team, we are increasing the scope of our Bermuda operations and positioning in the market as the leading destination for Aon’s Bermuda-domiciled reinsurance clients, who now have access to even more capabilities, both locally and through Aon’s global network.”

Rupert Moore, UK chief executive of Reinsurance Solutions for Aon, said: “Aon’s London and New York reinsurance teams will continue to collaborate closely with our Bermuda colleagues to deliver additional value to clients.

“This is another example of how we are creating inclusive, collaborative and proactive teams across our global operations, who are growth-oriented and are shaping better decisions for our clients.”
