Aspen boss Mark Cloutier is elected chairman of Abir
Aspen Insurance Group chief executive and executive chairman Mark Cloutier has been elected chairman of the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers for 2025-2026.
He succeeds Hamilton Insurance Group chief executive Pina Albo in the post.
Joining Mr Cloutier in Abir’s leadership structure are two newly appointed deputy chairmen: Nicolas Papadopoulo, chief executive of Arch Capital Group Ltd and Paul Simons, Bermuda chief executive at Convex Insurance.
Mr Papadopoulo recently took over the top job at Arch from Marc Grandisson, who served as Abir chairman in 2021-2022.
A spokesman for Abir said: “Cloutier brings decades of expertise in the insurance and reinsurance markets to his new role as Abir chair. Having led Aspen since 2019, Cloutier has overseen a significant turnaround at the company, including streamlining its operations and enhancing profitability.
“Before joining Aspen, Cloutier served as executive chairman and group CEO at Brit Ltd, where he steered the company through its acquisition by Fairfax Financial.”
He added: “Cloutier’s appointment signals a continuation of Abir’s tradition of drawing upon leaders with diverse experience and a global perspective.
“As Abir moves into 2025 under Cloutier’s leadership, he will also be supported by the trade body’s CEO John Huff, with 2025 marking his eighth year in the role, and an officers committee made up of past chairs, including Hamilton’s Albo, RenaissanceRe’s Kevin O’Donnell and Convex’s Stephen Catlin.”
