Staff from reinsurance firm RenaissanceRe volunteered to help plant more than 50 native and endemic species at the largest micro forest site to date on the Bermuda College campus.

A post on the Bermuda Zoological Society’s LinkedIn page said: “Despite the challenges of a hillside location, the team worked hard to clear the site and prepare it for planting, including Bermuda Palmetto, Bermuda Cedar, Coast Sophora, Foresteria, and Wax Myrtle.

“The BZS team continues to be able to move forward on these vital conservation projects because of the hard work from our supporters — we greatly appreciate you.”

The Micro Forest Project, launched by the Bermuda Zoological Society, started in November 2021, and involves clearing select areas of invasive species and replacing them with select endemic and native plants to promote biodiversity and safeguard the island’s natural heritage.
