Partnership to advance insurance education
The Association of Bermuda Insurers & Reinsurers, The Institutes Knowledge Group and the Bermuda College are jointly expanding opportunities for college students in Bermuda to learn critical leadership and technical insurance skills through the CPCU Collegiate Studies Programme.
The partnership promotes the programme and elevates insurance as a career path.
The collaboration is a key initiative to educate Bermuda College students on technical insurance skills, connect them with a professional network through Abir, and elevate their awareness of the rewarding career opportunities the risk management and insurance sectors provide.
“This partnership represents an incredible opportunity to inspire and prepare students for impactful careers in the insurance and reinsurance industry,” said L’Tanya Roberts, dean of the Division of Business, Hospitality and Technical Education, Bermuda College. “These courses not only build knowledge but also open doors for internships and career pathways that extend far beyond the classroom.”
The partnership also includes mentorship and guidance provided by Abir and its member companies, which collectively represent Bermuda’s leading insurers and reinsurers.
Adam Carmichael, president, The Institutes Knowledge Group, said: “This initiative exemplifies the collaborative spirit of The Institutes’ and our shared dedication to advancing risk management and insurance knowledge."
In the autumn of 2024, Bermuda College introduced The Institutes’ CPCU 500 Becoming a Leader in Risk Management and Insurance course, with CPCU 520 Meeting Challenges Across Insurance Operations, scheduled for the spring semester.
These courses are designed to provide students with foundational knowledge in risk management and insurance while offering them a pathway to earn credits towards the globally recognised CPCU programme.
The group said the CPCU designation was widely respected as the premier leadership credential in property-casualty insurance, symbolising a high level of expertise and professionalism.
By taking these courses through Bermuda College, students gain access to rigorous curriculum and invaluable networking opportunities through Abir member organisations, preparing them for leadership roles in a field critical to global resilience and economic stability.
The Institutes Knowledge Group brings more than 110 years of expertise in designing and delivering insurance and risk management professional development programmes to this partnership. The initiative reflects a shared commitment to educating the next generation of insurance and risk management professionals.
“This initiative exemplifies the collaborative spirit of The Institutes and our shared dedication to advancing risk management and insurance knowledge,” said Mr Carmichael.
“Through the CPCU Collegiate Studies, we aim to prepare students for meaningful and fulfilling careers in risk management and insurance.”
