The Bermuda College Foundation has received a $62,250 donation from presales of the new biography, Faith & Purpose: The Life & Vision of Insurance Industry Icon Brian Duperreault.

Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers chair Mark Cloutier presented foundation chairman Garry Madeiros with a cheque at a cocktail reception held at Chubb in Pembroke.

Mr Cloutier said: “Members of Abir, as well as the Association of Bermuda International Companies and many firms that provide services to our industry, demonstrated their gratitude to and admiration for Brian and all he has done for our market and for Bermuda by placing orders for his biography with the knowledge that the proceeds would enable our young people to pursue a career in this great industry.”

Faith & Purpose was researched and written by Bermudian Wendy Davis Johnson and chronicles Brian Duperreault’s life and career.

Lead sponsors included Aspen, Abir, Appleby, Chubb Bermuda, Hiscox Re+ILS, Marsh McLennan, RenaissanceRe, Strategic Risk Solutions, and Mr Duperreault’s new company, Mereo Insurance.

“Brian, thank you for all you have done for everyone in this room and the hundreds who couldn’t be with us,” Mr Cloutier said.

In accepting the presentation cheque, Mr Madeiros also paid tribute to Mr Duperreault’s impact on Bermuda.

“Brian, you have had Bermuda’s wellbeing at the forefront since you returned to your birthplace in 1994,” he said. “We are very appreciative of this donation, the timing of which couldn’t be better.”

Funds will support the development of a more robust insurance studies programme at the Bermuda College.

“On behalf of everyone at the foundation and at Bermuda College, thank you,” Mr Madeiros said.
