A gathering of phenomenal women

A gathering of phenomenal women will take place today at the Church of the Nazarene in Smith's. Phenomenal Women Inc. Bermuda is a non-profit organisation that empowers women of faith to become their personal best, said president Margaret Rose Giloth.

The group is calling on both registered members and those interesting in joining to attend the event. The church is located on the corner of Collector's Hill and South Shore Road.

The gathering will take place from 10 a.m. until noon. Childcare is also available.

"We've had about 40 ladies express interest in membership and now that we are active, we expect the number to grow," Ms Giloth said.

The Saturday meeting will follow a ceremonial order developed by the US-based Phenomenal Women group.

"This includes a Declaration of Faith and a Phenomenal Woman Oath," Ms Giloth said.

"These elements are meant to empower women, so no one needs to feel intimidated."

The gathering will address general business and some of the group's activities planned for 2007, which include:

The group's AGM on February 24;

A meeting of Eagle's Wings, a free divorce support group on March 12;

A Marathon Relay Day planned for May 24;

A Fashion Extravaganza, the date of which has yet to be announced;

The launch of the 'Phenomenal Beauty' Book Club and personal appearance by Phenomenal Women's founding president and author of the book, Tanya Hutchison;

And, the Phenomenal Women's Tea Party.

Ms Giloth said they are seeking volunteer chairpersons and committee members for many of these events.

Proceeds from all major activities will assist women in need or a charity that assists women and their children.

During the holidays, the group assisted a young mother-of-three.

"Generous donations from members and the public provided cash, clothing, food and gifts for the family," Ms Giloth said. "Our plan is to continue to help our adopted family throughout the year."

Members also gathered at Elder Care Home, in Devonshire, to sing carols to the seniors and plan to return a few times during the year for visits.

Membership forms can be obtained at the meeting or by contacting Phenomenal Women Inc of Bermuda 732-1111 or email margaretrose07yahoo.com. To learn more about the group visit www.phenomenalwomen.tv.
