Getting in a party mood

Stimulating workshops, games, good food and fellowship will all be part of the mix as the Young Adult Network (YAN) of Vernon Temple AME church hosts its first anniversary YAN JAM at Spice Valley Middle School on January 28.

And the celebratory atmosphere will continue as the Young Adults will lead both the 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. services on Sunday January 30.

Rev. Robert R. Shaw, a dynamic and spirit filled young man from Kansas City, Missouri, is the guest preacher at both Sunday services.

?We are going to have a wonderful time in the Lord,? says Sonia Fox, who is the president of Vernon Temple AME church?s Young Adult Network. On Friday night (January 28) we are starting at 10 p.m. until...

?Spice Valley Middle School is going to be on fire with the energy of our lively presenters and workshop leaders. There is going to be first class food and games all geared towards fun, friendly competition and fellowship.

?It will be the place to be that Friday night!?

?The workshop leaders are among some of the prominent personalities that are familiar to persons within the Christian and non-Christian communities,?? Mrs. Fox explained.

They include Rev. Joyce Hayward, of Richard Allen AME Church, Rev. Jonathan Lambe, of the Evening Light Pentecostal Church, Pastor Mason West III, of Hamilton Seventh Day Adventist Church, Pastor Bill Lee, of Heritage Worship Centre, Minister Kathydell Ming, of Greater Smith Hill Church, First Lady Donna Chandler, of Richard Allen AME Church and Rev. Ouemonde Brangman of Bright Temple AME church.

Workshops cover a wide range of topics that will be of interest to the young adults who consider themselves Christian and for those who are not regular church goers.

?We deliberately planned it that way,? Mrs. Fox continued.

?Our Pastor at Vernon Temple AME church is the Rev. Howard Dill and he was led to conceive our theme for the celebrations which is: ?Church Under Construction: Building God?s Kingdom One Soul at a Time.

?In keeping with our Pastor?s directions, the Young Adults of our church were organised into various subcommittees to organise this event.

?Although the young adult Christian community is one of our intended audiences, we are aiming to attract all young persons to our event. All that we ask is that they have an open mind and a respectful attitude.?

Friday night?s seminars and workshops will touch on topics such as marriage, dating, money management, spiritual growth and child rearing.

The Young Adult Network of Vernon Temple AME church is an organisation of Christian men and women aged 18-45. They organise social and other kinds of events that are targeted to the spiritual, career and family needs of the young adults of the church.
