Bermudians head to Israel
Bermuda will be well represented this coming week at the Baha'i International Convention to be held in Haifa, Israel from April 26 to May 2.
All nine members of Bermuda's National Spiritual Assembly will be present to partake in the historic ceremonies on Mount Carmel in Haifa, the world centre of the Baha'i Faith.
The pivotal event during the week-long convention will be the election of the preeminent governing body of the Bahai' Faith, the Universal House of Justice.
A record number of National Spiritual Assemblies from 185 countries around the globe will be participating in the event.
During this holy period on the Baha'i calendar, called Ridvan ("Paradise" in Arabic), Baha'is elect members for their local and national administrative bodies, called Spiritual Assemblies.
Every five years an International Convention takes place at Ridvan in Haifa to elect the nine members of the Universal House of Justice through secret ballot and plurality vote, in a process governed by spiritual principles which do not allow candidacies, nominations or campaigning.
