demand for the Moslem faith.

The news came as plans were revealed for a change of use at a site in Southampton, to a place of worship.

Ashmead Ali submitted the scheme to the Development Applications Board for a building in the grounds of a house on Lighthouse Road, Southampton.

It is already in use as a prayer centre for Moslems and the new plans are retroactive.

In a letter to the DAB, Mr. Ali stated that the growth of the Moslem faith in Bermuda would mean it could be necessary to establish a proper prayer mosque in the future.

At present the group meets at the shed in Southampton but an increase in numbers could mean that becomes too small.

The application includes for a change of use, new roof over an open area, toilets and prayer hall.

Recently, the grounds were used to accommodate the grave of a young Moslem woman. The burial was an emergency situation, which needed to take place within 24 hours of the woman's death and took place with full permission of the Government.

There was a complaint from a neighbour at the time but Mr. Ali stated that there had been no objections since the burial.

A scheme is well advanced for a permanent Moslem cemetery in the West End, which is being established with help from the Ministry of Development and Opportunity.

It is set to be opened on land owned by the West End Development Co at Cochrane Road, close to Dockyard. Planners raised queries on some technical points, which were to be ironed out before the scheme was considered by the DAB.

The plans were delayed whilst the problems were sorted out.

Meanwhile, West End tourist accommodation Cambridge Beaches have submitted plans for an extension to their Kings Point Road property.

The scheme -- which has been submitted by the Frascati Hotel Co. Ltd -- includes eight new residential units, an antique restoration room, recreation and office space.

And there will be improvements to the waterside dining facilities at the Elbow Beach hotel.

The property has submitted plans to replace the verandah roof on the dining terrace at the Sea Horse Grill.
