Novel way to raise funds for church
raise part of the funds needed to restore the 383-year-old Church.
A core group of people will gather ten of their friends to make $10 donations toward the restoration.
The core group are expected to hold two more events by March 10 in the drive to raise $100,000.
The programme, called "Tens'' by organisers, is itself part of a drive to raise $700,000 for the Church's Restoration Project.
A church was built on the site in 1616 and work on the present church had begun by 1717. The last major work to the building was the erection of the tower in 1905.
St. Anne's is in need of a total revamp of its electrical wiring and upgrades of its lighting and air-conditioning.
Pastor of St. Anne's, Michael Davis said he supported the project and its organisers, Zoe Oliver and Jean Richardson.
Rev. Davis added: "An ancient building of this nature needs constant care and attention.'' "Project Tens is about vision,'' Rev. Davis continued, "having new found faith, meeting people, finding new friends, and socialising with those we have not seen in months.'' He added: "It is about fostering good, healthy relationships. St. Anne's is truly a national treasure. It is also a vital place of worship for our growing Church family.'' Part of ten: Rev. Michael Davis recently welcomed members of the core group of fund raisers at the launch of the Tens Project to raise $100,000 toward restoration of St. Anne's Church in Southampton.
