STAR director to talk about leadership in the community

Carolyn Armstrong, the director of Star Christian Ministry will conduct a seminar this morning as part of the Bermuda Interdenominational Women's Conference presently underway at the Sonesta Beach Hotel.

Her seminar entitled "In the Heat of the Moment'' will apply to all she said, since everyone had experienced instances that took place in a crisis.

"What we do in the heat of the moment will reflect who we are, what we believe and ultimately whose we are,'' she said.

Mrs. Armstrong said she was going to teach the audience how to "stand''.

"When I say stand I mean stand on the rock, in the Word of God,'' she explained. "Folks will leave equipped with the Word of God, to stand in the Word of God, to stand with the Holy Spirit and be lead by God in the face of adversity and in the face trials and tests.'' And Mrs. Armstrong supported that the idea of having a women only conference.

"The vision (to have a conference) was given to a woman for women to get together and be built up, edified and taught so that they can make a difference not only in the Church but in the entire community.'' She added: "In our community, women are strong and powerful. It takes a strong woman to walk with strong men. There are so many ills in our community, and I'm not saying that there aren't men who are leading, but there are few.

Women must take their rightful places and train, teach and empower each other and those in the coming up behind (the youth).'' Mrs. Armstrong said she anticipated a "very high time'' had by all at this weekend's conference, predicting that Sonesta Beach will never be the same.

"There has been so much prayer, fasting and studying going into this and I believe that God is pleased,'' she added.
