The Anglican Church is on the verge of appointing a Canadian priest to St.

John's Church in Pembroke.

It is understood the Synod has recommended the Rev. Patrick Wright, a parish priest in Whitby, Ontario, for the vacant post.

Now Bishop Ewen Ratteray -- who was parish priest until his elevation to the Bishopric -- will decide whether to appoint Rev. Wright to the job.

Anglican Archdeacon Arnold Hollis said: "A decision has not been communicated to me at this stage so it's still at that stage.

"I just have to wait now until he gets back to me about it.'' He added that the Rev. Wright, who is in his 50s, has "a good educational background with a Bachelor's degree in Divinity and a Masters from Wycliffe College, Ontario.'' Rev. Wright has spent his entire ministry in the Diocese of Ontario.
