Deborah Butterfield dedicated her –life to girlguiding

Deborah Butterfield

The late Mrs. Deborah Butterfield was a valued member of The Bermuda Girl Guides Association which began through her becoming Brown Owl (Leader) of the Brownies, meeting at the Lady Asser Hut.

In 1959 Mrs. Butterfield became Island Commissioner; during that time, under her guidance, Guiding prospered. Leaders were found, enrollment increased, and she was able to attract responsible and energetic people to fill the Executive and to open new Brownie, Guide and Ranger units.

Retiring as Island Commissioner after five years in 1964 she received "The Medal of Merit" from Guide Headquarters in London. Mrs. Butterfield continued as International Advisor in Bermuda, where she entertained Lady Baden-Powell (World Chief Guide) at her home. She also arranged hospitality for visiting Leaders and Guides, attending from many countries, to our 50th Anniversary Camp.

Mrs. Butterfield kept up her interest in Guiding as a Life Vice-President and she will be sadly missed by her many friends in Guiding.
