Kelly Zuill's 48th Anniversary of Gospel Train takes off this evening with a host of acts.

Rochelle Simons Lecomte, who sang a duet with Melba Moore last weekend at Sybil's Dynamic Female Impersonators, is performing in this concert with the Mellow Tones. The concert takes place this evening at the City Hall Theatre.

Mrs. Simons Lecomte met Mr. Zuill when she was only seven-years-old and singing with the Upperroom Quintet and the Mellow Tones. "So whenever they went out to do concerts, I was the opening act," she said. "Ever since then, Kelly and I have had a bond."

At present she is assisting Mr. Zuill with the production of tonight's event. "I organised the repertoire that we are doing and we are now rehearsing at Daryl Simons Studio in Happy Valley.

"We have a four-piece band backing us, Daryl Simons, Derek Simmons, Tony Cox and which consists of Dennis Francis."

Dawnelle Robinson will also perform with Mrs Simons Lecomte. The pair performed in the past with Gene Steede at what was then only known as the Hamilton Princess.

Mrs Simons Lecomte, who sang 'Magic Man' when she was signed with Warner Brothers in the 80s, will perform with the remaining members of the Mellow Tones, as their lead singer Gary Smith passed about 15 years ago. "I'll be doing a tribute to Gary on one of his songs that he used to sing when I was little," she said. "I just loved his song and I would ask him to sing it whenever we went out and he would get on stage and say, 'this is dedicated to little Rochelle'.

"It's called 'I know the Lord will Make A Way'."

The other members of the Mellow Tones are Cal Simons, Earl Smith and Kenny Burrows.

"These guys are like 65 years old and their voices are still as pure as when they were younger."

Other performers include Toni Robinson, The Mount Zion Male Choir, Big Snipes, Kelly Zuill is singing with Kevin K&K.

"I am so looking forward to it, because gospel is my life."

Tickets $50, are available at Music Box, Christian Book Centre Washington Mall and Esso Collectors Hill, and Cesar's Pharmacy.
