Jesus died for our sins

The Evangelical Church of Bermuda

The angel of the Lord gave very specific instructions. The baby was to be named “JESUS: For He shall save his people from their sins.”No wonder the statement “Jesus Saves” is written and scribbled everywhere ... on walls, billboards, scraps of paper, backs of envelopes, old bridges and is frequently seen boldly displayed as bumper stickers. But Jesus saves from what? From the guilt and penalty of sin. From the power of sin. From the punishment of sin - hell. From the consequences of sin - death. From the very presence and existence of sin - at His return when He catches away His followers.Jesus the sinless One was made sin for us when He went to the cross. There, as an act of His Father, our sins were reckoned (charged) to His account. He bore them for us. He was our substitute. He died for them. He justly met the Biblical requrement that “the soul that sins must die”. He died our deserved death and because He died so we, through faith in His Name, are freed from the law of sin and death. We are saved! This is what it means to know Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord.“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life.”This Christmas, through faith in His Name, experience the real meaning of the season. JESUS! What a Name. It is a Name with eternal consequences.Pastor Richard Christen is the Pastor of the Evangelical Church of Bermuda.
