New novel brings life of King David up to date for teenagers

Book launch: Jonathan Lambe

Writing a novel is one of those bucket-list dreams that most people never get to, but for Pastor Jonathan Lamb at Evening Light Pentecostal, that dream has come true.Next Saturday , he will officially launch, “The Chronicles of David King: Lost & Found,” in an open party at Victoria Park.“The story is a modernised take on the life of King David,” he described of the book, which is mostly geared to the teen market. The lead character is David King, who was raised in a single-parent home in New York, yet, when his mother dies, is forced to move to the other side of the country to join his father'’ family in Orange County, California, where he struggles to fit in.“His [new] family doesn't really appreciate him or love him the way he should be,” Pastor Lambe shared, and the teenage David is faced with trying to, “conquer the giants in his life”.Lost & Found is the first book in a series highlighting the life of the young David King, and follows, comparably, with the life of the Biblical David during his teen years, up until his battle with the giant Goliath. While Christians will definitely enjoy the parallels between the two Davids, Pastor Lambe truly believes non-Christians will appreciate the story.“I wanted to write it so that even those who are [not church goeers] will get principles out of it.”As a result, the book reflects the realities and challenges many young people face in real life.“It's been an amazing journey,” Pastor Lambe explained. As a fourth generation preacher, he actually found that he had the 'preacher' label put on him at a very young age, and he found himself conflicted over his future.“Something in me wanted to do movies,” he revealed. “I was tired of watching how Hollywood depicted [Christians] on the screen, trying to show who we are.”Unfortunately, there is often a great dichotomy between Christianity on the silver screen and what most Christians are really like. In fact, Pastor Lambe originally wrote the David King story as a movie script.“David's story is everybody's story,” he added. “All are born with a dream, a vision something bigger than themselves.”And while we cannot control our circumstances the family we are born in, the place or the time Pastor Lambe truly believes we can overcome those circumstances and succeed with God's help.“There's a lot of craziness going on,” he concluded. “[People] have dreams, but they don't know how to get there,” but he hopes the tale of David King will not only inspire readers, but also encourage them, give them hope and empower them to go after those dreams. At the book launch, Pastor Lambe will be available to sign copies of his new book, and the party will also feature music by Big Snipes and DJ Brother Ritchie. It will run from 3pm to 6pm at Victoria Park, with plans to move it to Evening Light in case of inclement weather. The book is available online at www.dknovel.com, amazon, Heritage Bookstore, and Brown & Co
