Chloé Minors is the founder of Fresh Faith Apparel, “a Christ-centred clothing brand” based in Bermuda.

The company offers T-shirts and streetwear that bear faith-based messages such as “God’s Glory”, “Jesus is Better” and “Made New”.

According to Ms Minors, the idea is that they become “conversation starters for people to ultimately share the gospel, the good news of Jesus”.

The idea came in 2020, in the early days of the pandemic, while listening to a podcast, Pray, Plan, Slay.

“I had recently come back home from living in Canada and I found that my time was spent going to work, home, and church; I just wanted to do more. I really wanted to get involved in something. I didn’t know what it was at the time, but I knew I wanted it to have an impact for the kingdom of God,” Ms Minors said.

“The podcast was talking about getting involved and doing things for God in your single season. And so it got me thinking about what I could do, coupled with my wanting to do more anyway.”

She started out with T-shirts but was determined to do more. To achieve that however she had to overcome the discomfort of putting herself “out there”.

“I really had to step outside of my comfort zone. To have a kingdom impact in the community and influence people for Jesus was really on my heart and so I had to take that step outside of my comfort zone and just go for it. So that is what I did.”

Fitting Fresh Faith Apparel in with the demands of her full-time job has taken some adjustment however.

“The balance between being a busy working professional and starting and growing a business takes time and effort so that balance between my work life and business life has really been a challenge for me.”

She considers herself fortunate to have connected “with like-minded business owners” who have shared tips and given encouragement.

“Having a clear understanding of my ‘why’ has really helped me navigate through that challenge,” Ms Minors added.

“I have a clear understanding of the mission of Fresh Faith and what I want to accomplish. For me, it is more than just a business, it is also a ministry. As believers, we have been given this great commission, and I understand that not everyone will agree or understand my position, but that is the heart behind it, and that helps me overcome any negative commentary that people may have.”

Her brand isn’t limited to just her T-shirt line.

“I understand that the message [T-shirts] are a specific niche and not everyone may be into that,” she said. “I also offer Ankara clothing, Ankara is a type of African cotton material and it is really bright and has colourful prints. I offer it in ladies’ and men's clothing.

“I also offer other pieces that aren’t necessarily the Ankara prints, that are cute and functional for ladies specifically. I have connected with other brands to offer pieces that fall within that category and plan to upload to the website very soon, so people can stay tuned.”

Her hope is to one day open a store featuring the Fresh Faith Apparel clothing line.

“I don’t know how and when that will happen considering that I am so busy, but I would love to be able to offer more products and be able to have a store where people can come and browse,” Ms Minors said.

No matter where the business takes her, faith will always sit at its centre, she added.

“For me personally it is really essential to my business. Not only what I am seeking to accomplish but, as Christians if we say that God is our help, God is the centre of our lives, of all these things, then He should be the centre of our business.”
