Hayden ready for a classic tussle

NOVEMBER 13, 2009 - According to All Blacks coach Andy Hayden his side's Classic final against the Lions tonight should be 'an interesting little tussle'.

And Hayden has taken a swipe at the Lions saying that they will want to avoid a physical confrontation against an All Blacks side that bashed their way into the final with a titanic defensive display against South Africa in Thursday's semi-final.

While not going so far as to accuse the Lions of running scared, Hayden is convinced his side will be the only ones trying to play all the rugby.

A direct contrast to their win over South Arica when the Kiwis spent the majority of the game repelling wave after wave of Springbok attacks.

"We'll have to have a think about how we appraoch the final," said Hayden.

"This is a totally different scenario (from the semi-final). Our guys want it vigorous, they want a physical game, and I don't think the Lions want that.

"So it will be a contrast again.'

Not that the All Blacks coach is underestimating the challenge his side faces, especially with a Lions team that includes the likes of Barry Williams, Anthony Foley, Mark Regan and Colin Charvis.

Charvis alone has 96 Wales caps to his name, as well as six Lions caps, and the experience in the side will give them an edge the All Blacks will not take lightly.

"They've got some game around the park," said Hayden, "and it will be fascinating again, and it will be an interesting little tussle I think."

Before the All Blacks and Lions collide in the final game of this year's competition (8pm), there will be the small mater of Australia v Argentina in the Plate Final (6pm).

The two sides have taken wildly different routes to this evening's game, with Australia losing to France on peanlties before they battered the US 36-0 in the plate semi-final.

Argentina meanwhile ran the All Blacks close in their first game before squeezing past Canada in a physical confrontation on Thursday.

Before the finals, two Bermuda teams will take to the pitch, with the under-19s kicking off proceedings with their game against Don Mills (3.30pm), followed by the Golden Onions' clash with the Wild Geese (4.45pm).
