Bermuda women’s sevens head to Calgary
The Bermuda women’s rugby team will be competing at the Stampede Sevens tournament in Calgary, Alberta, this weekend.
The tournament is one of the top sevens competitions in Canada and will provide Bermuda with important competitive matches.
Bermuda, competing as the “Dark and Stormys”, have entered the top division, the Women’s Premier, as they are keen to test themselves against the best sides in North America.
Andy Crichton, the head coach, said: “This tournament has become the focus of our season. The players are more experienced, fitter and stronger, having trained four times a week for the past six months. Success will be measured by translating all that effort into strong on-field performances showcasing their high-tempo and expansive style of play.”
With Jessica Cassidy (broken leg) and Erica MacArthur (pregnancy) unavailable, Megan Sanders and Anne Peterson, who play for the USA Eagles, have been brought into the squad through Bermuda’s partnership with Avatus (Serevi Rugby).
Squad: Mika Tomita (captain), Kelli Nusum (vice-captain), Amanda Swan, Juliette Ferrari-McComb, Corrie Cross, Gillian Cross, Gemma Godfrey, Karly Alleyne, Deneka Borden, Megan Sanders and Anne Peterson.
