Three new exciting events are poised to make their debut in the Annual Schools Relay Classic.

This year will feature the introduction of a preschoolers’ 4 x 25 metre relay, a senior school mixed 4 x 400 metre relay with boys and girls competing together as well as a Special Olympics 100 metre race for males and females.

The 14th Annual Schools Relay Classic will take place at the Flora Duffy Stadium on Friday with free admission for spectators and is being hosted by the Bermuda Pacers Track Club in conjunction with the Title Sponsor AIG, who have offered their support for the seventh year.

A total of 25 schools will compete in all levels for bragging rights and a share of $3,900 in prize money to go towards their athletic programme.

The event starts at 5.30pm with the primary school teams competing in the 4 x 100 metre semi-finals.

The exhibition events, which include the preschoolers, mixed relays and the Special Olympians will then take to the track at 6.30pm, with the schools races resuming at 8pm with 4 x 400 metre relays, which are all timed finals.

The highlight of the evening is set to be the 4 x 100 finals featuring many of the island’s Carifta Games athletes, with those races set to start at 8pm.

This event also boasts 300 public and private students representing the top eight schools at primary, middle and senior school levels.

Back to defend their titles are champions Harrington Sound Primary, Sandys Secondary Middle School and CedarBridge Academy.
