National Sprint Triathlon Championships to take place on June 25
The Liberty Mutual Bermuda National Sprint Triathlon Championships will take place in Hamilton on Sunday, June 25.
Senior individual and team sprint options are available for the event together with shorter distances for those who have just taken up the sport and younger athletes.
Children can also take part in the duathlon (run/bike), while schools are being encouraged to enter teams in the Senior and Middle School Challenge, in which three students will take on the individual disciplines of swim, bike and run.
Last year’s event featured more than 100 triathletes of all ages and Steve Petty, president of the Bermuda Triathlon Association, believes that a larger number will take part this year.
“The Liberty Mutual Bermuda National Sprint Triathlon Championships is one of the most electric and exciting sporting events in Bermuda,” he said.
“Whether you are new to the sport or an experienced triathlete, it is an amazing opportunity to swim in the harbour and race around the streets of the City of Hamilton. We encourage the public to come out and support all the athletes taking part.”
Liberty Mutual Bermuda president Steve Horton said they are happy to be supporting the triathlon for a second year.
“At Liberty Mutual Bermuda we are committed to supporting active, community events,” Horton said.
“It is wonderful to watch triathletes of all ages show off their skills on race day. Triathlon is a sport where hard work, dedication and training pay off on the racecourse. These are skills that are invaluable in all aspects of life.”
Registration is now open for the triathlon and motorists in Hamilton will have to contend with road closures in the city on the morning of the race.
