Dame Flora Duffy urges youngsters to follow in her footsteps
Dame Flora Duffy has encouraged Bermudian youngsters to enter the Clarien Iron Kids Triathlon, which takes place on Saturday.
In a video posted on Instagram, the world champion motivated those aspiring to take up triathlon to participate in the Clarien Iron Kids Triathlon, which is aimed at youngsters aged 3 to 15.
“Hey Bermuda, next weekend is the Clarien Iron Kids Triathlon, June 1, and I want to encourage you all to enter,’’ posted Duffy.
Having seen what Clarien Iron Kids Triathlon did for her career after she started competitive triathlon in this event at the age of seven, Duffy is keen to stir up participation for this year’s competition.
“This was actually my first triathlon many, many years ago,” Duffy said. “I absolutely loved it, I had so much fun and the rest is history. So, if you looking to get involved in triathlon I would highly encourage you to enter this race as it's a lot of fun.
The Clarien Iron Kids Triathlon is a community-driven event hosted by Clarien Bank in association with the Bermuda Triathlon Association, which allows young athletes of all experience levels to compete in a traditional swim, bike and run junior triathlon competition.
In 2022, the race made a return after a two-year hiatus with the event held at Southside, in St David’s.
Since defending her Commonwealth Games title and becoming world champion last year, Duffy has been battling against a long-term knee injury but the 35-year-old is confident that she will race later this year as she focuses on preparing to defend her Olympic title in Paris next year.
