Tyler Smith and Erica Hawley produced creditable performances at the Americas Triathlon Championships in Veracruz, Mexico.

Smith finished ninth after completing the Olympic distance course in 1hr 46min and 4sec, just over two minutes behind winner John Reed of the United States. The silver medal went to Martin Sobey, of Canada, with Canadian Brock Hoel third.

Coming off last month’s impressive third place at the World Triathlon Cup Yeongdo in South Korea, Hawley continued her good form when finishing eleventh in 2:02:3.
