Dominique Mayho wins Swan’s Labour Day 5K
Dominique Mayho showed he is just as talented without his wheels when winning the Swan’s Labour Day 5K on Sunday.
A six-times winner of the island’s most prestigious cycling race, the Sinclair Packwood Memorial, the 29-year-old came out on top in a photo finish to win the traditional curtain-raiser to Bermuda’s road running season.
Mayho crossed the line alongside Phillipe Froncioni, with both athletes given the time of 18min 10sec, but the former was awarded the victory,
Jackson Langley, aged just 14, finished third with Juma Mouchette and Elan Satchit rounding out the top five finishers.
Teresa Ruiz, who can be seen racing on most weekends, was the first wom to cross the line in 20:38, which was good enough for eighteenth overall. Annie Ford and Stepanka Sprincova followed her home.
The junior race, which took place over 2.2 kilometres, was won by 13-year-old Nazir Johnson, who came home in a time of 8:28. He beat Harrison Estwanik by ten seconds, with Naomi MacGuinness producing a superb run to finish third in the same time as the runner-up and be the first girl across the line.
