Dame Flora Duffy joins T100 Triathlon World Tour
Olympic champion Dame Flora Duffy will be among those competing for honours on the rebranded T100 Triathlon World Tour this year.
The Professional Triathletes Organisation and World Triathlon have announced that Duffy has signed up for the upcoming eight-race series featuring 40 of the world’s highest-ranked athletes.
The series will be spread across three continents, with the season set to begin in Miami on March 9 and conclude with the Grand Final on November 30 at a Middle East venue yet to be announced where the 2024 women’s and men’s world champions will be crowned.
An international line-up of 40 leading triathletes will compete in a minimum of five races as well as the Grand Final.
Thirty-two of the athletes qualified as a result of their PTO World Ranking at two points during 2023, with eight additional spots awarded to women and men whose past results and future potential promises to add excitement to the tour.
Individual wild cards will be awarded for each race in consultations between World Triathlon and PTO.
Duffy revealed in a recent interview with The Royal Gazette that she could potentially make a comeback from injury in May.
The 36-year-old did not compete in any race last year having undergone rehabilitation from a long-term knee injury that was initially diagnosed as a tear in her patella tendon.
Duffy, the four-times ITU women’s world champion and two-times Commonwealth Games champion, remains committed to making a full recovery and potentially returning to competition and defending her Olympic title in Paris, France, this summer.
“Best case, if all goes well from here, is to start racing in May and Paris,” she said.
Duffy is ranked 33rd in the most recent projected Olympic qualification simulation, with 55 spaces available at the Games. The deadline to pick up points expires on May 27, and if she is to race that month her options include the World Champion Triathlon Series in Yokohama, Japan, on May 11 or the World Triathlon Cup in Huatulco, Mexico, a week later.
