Sean Trott and Gayle Lindsay win first leg of Legends Series
Sean Trott and Gayle Lindsay held off some strong challenges to win the first leg of the Legends Running Series yesterday.
Trott, who finished second to Lamont Marshall in the Ed Marshall 8K last year, improved on his 2023 time of 28min 5sec by exactly 20 seconds to break the line first this time, just 15 seconds ahead of the in-form Chayce Smith, who had won the Bermuda Union of Teachers 5K just a week earlier.
Thomas Mills finished third in 28:22, with Adam Prunty and Domico Watson rounding out the top five positions.
Lindsay, who won every race in the Legends Series last year, had more time to spare over her rivals after finishing at Southampton Rangers Sports Club in 31:31, which was also good enough for an overall finish inside the top ten.
She finished nearly three minutes clear of her nearest rival Stepanka Sprincova (34:29) with Megan Berry (34:49), Teresa Ruiz (36:04) and Deirdre McLaughlin (36.45) rounding out the top five.
The Legends series consists of four races, the Ed Sherlock 8K, The Ray Swan Flat 8K on March 24, the Ludwig Cann 10K (April 7) and the "Sir" Stanley Burgess 5K (May 5). To be eligible to win the series runners have to compete in three of the four races, with double points awarded to all participants in the fourth and final race.
The winners of the overall series will each receive a Legends Race Series trophy and a cash prize of $1,000, with age-group winners also eligible for prizes.
